One Dress, Three Ways

One Dress Styled Three Ways on The Riza Magazine

I love when one article of clothing has so many possibilities. It’s my favorite thing about capsule wardrobe — making the most of the clothes you have. I explored that with this Sweet Baby Jamie dress I rented from Rent the Runway. This dress was giving me cottagecore vibes, but the green and black gingham gave it a punk edge. So I played around with this aesthetic at first, complimenting the green with these oxblood Dr. Martens loafers and fishnet ankle socks, a thick belt that mimics the look of a corset belt, and a satin choker (I haven’t worn a choker since third grade). I wish I could credit myself for having a keen eye that discovered a new aesthetic, but apparently it already has a name and a large youth following, cottagegore. As fun as it was to experience this witchy youthful mood, it’s not where my heart lies. The outfit made a transition to a feminist school house teacher like that of Miss Muriel Stacey, layering the dress with a white collared shirt. Then I landed to where my fashion heart truly lies, street style. Nothing makes me happier and wearing ugly sneakers with a dress, adding a touch of masculinity by pair it the dress with a blazer, finishing off the look with a fitted cap that makes for a fun contrast with my curls.

It was fun exploring this outfit evolutions of one dress worn three ways. Which of these looks do you prefer? Do you have a fashion style that speaks to you?
