Takeaways: Timothée Chalamet’s Historic Vogue

It’s taking me a minute (a month, an actual full month) to get my hands on this historic British Vogue issue. Small town life. Pretty sure I’m the only person in town who buys British Vogue. Timothée Chalamet is the first guy to grace the cover of British Vogue so of course I need to have this issue in my collection. And I need this win because I couldn’t get my hands on the Philippines Vogue maiden voyage issue last month. By the way, you can buy any Conde Nast issue here. I learned that a little too late and the Philippines September issue is sold out. So to prevent this disappointment from happening again, I have Timothée’s issue in a cart ready to purchase if my Barnes & Noble doesn’t get their act together.

Anyway, here’s my 10 takeaways from Timothée and Edward’s conversation:

  • “We’re in a diner. . .” but not just any diner Edward! I see that miniature Lady Liberty holding a pride flag. Oh and the sign is telling me it’s a vegan diner?! I need to go to this place pronto.

  • “I’m not a good cook. That’s something, that I think, as I adultify that’ll be a good thing to get good at.” LOL at the word adultify. It’s a good word. And good on Chalamet for admitting he doesn’t cook. It truly is a skill to learn. I started experimenting with cooking in my 20’s. Now in my thirties, I’m finally feeling confident in the kitchen. We all have periods of adultifying.

  • My let-me-show-you cooking instincts, a Filipino trait, are kicking in. Edward let me come over and give you a lesson on boiling an egg! 7 minutes is how I do for a soft boiled egg.

  • That teeth check! I’ve had one too many friends not tell me I had something in my teeth or that my lipstick was smeared. This was hashtag friendship goals for me.

  • I feel my body ache when Chalemet talks about all the traveling he’s done. When the soul wants to travel, but your 32 year old back says otherwise.

  • Tears for when Chalamet gives Virgil Abloh credit. For sure my favorite Chalamet red carpet looks were the ones when he was dressed in Virgil’s designs. I will forever swoon at the sequin harness he wore to the 2019 Golden Globes.

  • Could we handle a Timothée Chalamet with a British accent?!

  • “Who represents now? Who is loved by people of all ages. . .” I laughed hard at this because when I mentioned that I loved Timothée Chalamet to Jordan’s friend he said, “Oh, I know him. My 12 year old daughter has a crush on him.” I’m Dead. DEAD! Truly loved by all ages.

  • “It wasn’t male, it wasn’t female. . .I feel good in this.” Yes to androgynous styles! And yes to wearing what you feel good in. It’s a skill to be attuned to what clothes you feel good in. Lastly, yes to Enninful’s brilliance in incorporating the aesthetic of Bones and All in a women’s fashion magazine.

  • “You all represent the zeitgeist, a moment in history. So when somebody looks back in 10 years or 20 years, they’ll be like, Oh my God, these were the people who represented that time.” I couldn’t be more excited to look back in 20 years and feel a sense of pride that this actor’s talent and the stories he told defined our generation. What are your thoughts on Chalamet representing our time?
