Transitioning to Fall
Depending on where you live in the Northern Hemisphere at this time of year, fall could be big time sweater weather, all decked out in knits or you’re enjoying 60 degree weather. Probably still donning knits, but not as bundled up as us Midwesterns. I may be low key jealous of you South Western US folks. I’ve been shopping around for the best space heater and wearing scarves indoors because I can never seem to get warm enough in the cold humidity. But hey, at least we got the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows of trees. And speaking of color, it’s the perfect transition of how this #colorfitpalette of my last NYFW look is my main color inspiration for this fall. Honestly, red is always a favorite color during this season. Burgundy looks good on your girl and, although it may seem depressing, I can’t help but love sporting an all black outfit. When it comes to fashion icons, I more resemble Steve Jobs than Anna Wintour who I believe said that dressing in all black is boring. Give me black trousers, a black long sleeve turtle neck, this rusty red Dakota Triangle hat, ribbed socks and a nice pair of sneakers. This look photographed below is kind of a warm weather twist on my cold weather go-to. Instead of going solid black, I braved a black and white checked pattern. And instead of a turtle neck, I braved a v-neck and a skirt with a slit. When doing this shoot I did a pose that revealed just how high that slit went. Whoop! Look how pale my thigh is — you know it’s only gonna get paler too! Needless to say, When going from summer to fall, not much changes. Just a bit more coverage. Oh, hello 29 degree November mornings! I’ll for sure get good use out of this felt hat, my new favorite sneakers, and this color palette.
Here are 5 other things that will be getting good use this cold season:
Harney & Sons Earl Grey Black Tea with Bergamot
This mug from East Fork Pottery
I’ve gotten back into podcast now that I’m commuting more. Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Lavar Burton Reads, and You’re Wrong About keep me company on my drives.
Water. No need to hyperlink it because CLEAN WATER SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE! I just went there. Okay, but seriously, it’s harder to stay hydrated when it’s cold. I aim to do better at hydration this season than ever before. That’s a lofty goal cause I’ve always sucked at staying hydrated. I’m on day three of drinking more than 110 fluid ounces. Yay me!
The Flo Period and Ovulation Tracker app. I’ve had this app for almost a year and I’m just now taking it serious. Flo helps track your menstrual cycle — when you ovulate and when your period starts — and it educates you on all things women’s health (like sex and nutrition). I’m 31 years old and I’m just getting serious about my health. It’s tough to be consistent in longing your sleep, your water intake, and symptoms of your cycle. I just had a rough case of anxiety recently and I was able to narrow it down to not taking care of myself the week before my cycle ended. These colds months are rough enough on mental health, so Ima do my part to keep my mood up by taking care of my health.
