Styling It with Kevin Ho

I’m so excited to start The Riza styling feature and to start it off with my friend, Kevin Ho! Kevin is a Bay Area based photographer. I met him in February during NYFW while we were both in front of Springs Studios doing our thing; he was shooting street styles and I was illustrating. I asked if I could illustrate him. Next thing I know we were both geeking out about being Asian; he’s Taiwanese and I’m Filipino. I showed him my work. He showed me his. The geeking out continues. Then the conversation takes a turn in where I share my first NYFW experience. It wasn’t great. People being unkind and all. Anyway, Kevin shared this beautiful wisdom:

If you’re only cute on the outside, then there’s no point. New York is about making friends!

He’s a pretty wonderful person, huh?! Well in anticipation of Spring/Summer 2021 NYFW this coming Sunday, I’m sharing Kevin’s street style look from that time we met along with some more of his styling wisdom! Follow Kevin on Instagram if you love some photography and activism!

1. How would you describe your style?

Someone once said "My style is a combination of the past, the present and the future", and I couldn't agree more! I love experimenting and emulating so many different moods with colors, eras, fabrics and textures. I love to stand out and inspire people to do the same.

2. What advice do you have about finding your personal style?

Honestly, you just gotta go for it! Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Life is too short to not wear all the amazing pieces of clothing out there. You're beautiful and you deserve to have fun and experiment with your look. Find inspiration in anyone and anything, then add whatever feels good to you. Wear something that scares you and own it like you're on a runway--always. It's one of the best things you can ever do for yourself--thank me later.
