Since 2008, El Cholo's Kid has shown the world the beauty of our Mexican traditions and the talent of our artisans. Our handwoven bags are designed in California and made in central Mexico by a family of weavers who has, through generations, perfected the the art of weaving that make our bags long-lasting unique pieces of art. Our bags are made from recycled plastic with care and love, from our family to yours.

1. I love the celebration of Mexican artistry through your bags! Can you describe what the opportunity to celebrate Mexican culture and heritage in this way means to you?
I grew up as a border kid always going back and forth between Mexico and California, so I grew up with an appreciation for the beauty of the culture and I love being able to show others the talent of our artisans. The US has the tendency of defining other cultures very narrowly and I think it’s important to expand on that and show people more of what’s out in the world, not just specifically for the the Mexican culture, but for everyone. It’s important to learn, and share and experience the world. Traditional art forms are a small way to introduce people to that.
2. It's awesome that your bags are made from recycled plastic. Why is sustainability a high priority for you?
Reusing items we throw away and being more aware of what you buy has become more important through the years. I think even for those of us who recycle, our thoughts about the process used to end with placing the object in the recycling bin. As we’ve learned more about what actually happens to recycled goods and that many just end up in landfills, it’s become increasingly important to think about ways to firstly, reduce our consumption, and after that reuse what we’ve already produced.
3. You rock an effortlessly chic top bun! How would you describe your style?
It makes me laugh when people ask about my bun, because it’s just the laziest hairstyle. My style is a hodgepodge, I like being comfortable, but I also have dramatic tendencies which can manifest themselves with over the top fashion choices. For my everyday style, my bun and a nice pair of sunglasses are my constant companions.
4. During quarantine, what is one activity that is keeping you sane?
I’m really focusing on organizing, there are a lot of things that I’m behind on because I always have so much to do so I’m catching up on that. I’m lucky because I’m used to working from home so it hasn’t affected my workflow that much.
5. What is a fashion trend that you are loving right now?
I love seeing the 90’s come back because when I was a teenager I thought it couldn’t possibly happen! It was such a messy time for fashion, yet here we are with people wearing white shirts under spaghetti strap dresses. I wish the tiny sunglass trend had stayed in 1996, but it’s still interesting to see.
